Residential Update for Fall 2020

Residential Update for Fall 2020

In an effort to support a residential experience for students while still ensuring the overall health and safety of the community, Rollins has announced a single-occupancy model for on-campus housing for Fall 2020. You can read the details of that announcement from Rollins President Grant Cornwell and Provost Susan Rundell Singer here.

The impact this has on the current members of our chapter and the entire FSL community at Rollins is substantial. Because removing roommates greatly reduces the number of students that campus housing can accommodate, buildings that normally house Residential Organizations (ROs), including fraternity and sorority houses, are being transitioned to general student housing under the single-occupancy model. Thus Mayflower Hall, longtime house of the sisters of NCM, will not be home to “The Nest” this fall.

Thankfully, we have been assured this is only a temporary measure. As soon as the college can return to the normal residential structure, the FSL community will return to traditional RO housing arrangements.

In the meantime, the chapter will still be in operation, just at a more limited capacity than we have known in the past. The chapter’s executive board is currently planning and adjusting the scope of the semester’s programming and determining which events will be fully virtual, on-campus following social-distancing guidelines, or offered in a hybrid online and in-person format.

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is working with chapter leadership and advisors to find solutions for other questions and concerns this change brings with it, like finding storage for chapter items and reserving accomodating meeting spaces.

We will keep you updated as plans are solidified moving forward. If you have questions, please refer to the general FAQs that Rollins has provided. While we do not necessarily have a lot of additional information to provide at this time, any NCM sister with further questions or concerns should reach out to their respective president.
